Michigan International Campore International Service Team (IST)

The Michigan International Camporee invites Scouts, Venturers, and leaders from all around the world who are registered members of WOSM-affiliated Scout Associations and will be 18 or older on August 1, 2008, to submit applications to join the 2008 Michigan International Camporee International Service Team (IST).   Serving in a Michigan International Camporee staff position as part of our IST is a unique opportunity to meet Scouts and adults from over 20 countries and to help them experience the friendship and fellowship of international Scouting.

All Michigan International Camporee International Service Team applicants must be endorsed by the WOSM-affiliated International Commissioner of the applicant’s country. IST applicants from the Africa Region of WOSM must also be endorsed by WOSM’s Africa Region office.  If the IST applicant is part of a Michigan International Camporee international contingent that has gone through the endorsement process, no additional action will be necessary.  If the IST applicant is not part of a Michigan International Camporee international contingent that has gone through the endorsement process, we will request that International Division Boy Scouts of America contact the WOSM International Commissioner of the applicant’s country for this required endorsement.

Each IST members will be assigned a specific MIC staff position and will be expected to perform the duties of that position.  There are no openings at a Michigan International Camporee for IST "participants" or "observers."  Like all other MIC 2008 staff members, each MIC 2008 IST member must pay a U.S. $100 staff fee to cover the cost of staff meals and camporee items.  Because of the cost of converting money of other countries to U.S. dollars, MIC 2008 IST applicants should wait to send in your printed application and payment until it is confirmed that there is a position for you in the MIC 2008 staff.

MIC 2008 IST members with passports from countries other than Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, will need to obtain U.S. visas to enter the U.S. and serve on the MIC IST.  Obtaining a U.S. visa is the responsibility of the IST member.  The Michigan International Camporee will send each IST member from a non-visa-waiver country a letter to submit with his/her visa application stating that the purpose of the visit to the U.S. is to serve on the Michigan International Camporee staff, that this individual’s participation on the Michigan International Camporee staff will enrich U.S. Scouts and leaders, and that we endorse the visa application.  Unfortunately, in some situations, that might not be enough to gain approval of the visa application.

All MIC 2008 IST members are expected to be at Northwoods from Saturday, July 26, to Sunday, August 3, 2008.  If a MIC 2008 IST member from outside the U.S. and Canada would like to participate in MIC home hospitality the week before the MIC, that opportunity is available.

All Michigan International Camporee IST members must agree to comply with the Michigan International Camporee Policies on Alcohol, Tobacco, and Health and Accident Insurance.
